The browser enforces this: the site’s security policy only lets the page talk to the code libraries’ servers and an anonymous usage counter (tool name, file type, size range). A request carrying your file to anywhere else would be blocked before it left.
Check it yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab, and run the tool. Or turn off Wi-Fi once the tool has loaded; it keeps working.
How it works
The AIS and TIS PDFs open with your PAN in lowercase followed by your date of birth as DDMMYYYY. Form 26AS, ITR-V and intimations are covered too.
The income tax department uses a few patterns. The Annual Information Statement and Taxpayer Information Summary use your PAN in small letters, then your date of birth as DDMMYYYY: abcpr1234k07031992 for PAN ABCPR1234K and a birthday of 7 March 1992. The ITR-V acknowledgement and intimations under sections 143(1), 139(9) and 154 use the same pattern, while some notices use the PAN in capitals only. Form 26AS from TRACES uses just the date of birth as DDMMYYYY, and its PDF often opens without one. Form 16 from your employer has no fixed rule, because your employer's payroll software sets it; PAN, PAN with date of birth, and date of birth alone are the usual choices, and all are tried. Pick the document, type your PAN and date of birth, and the right combination is found on your device.
How to use it
- Drop the tax PDF. AIS, TIS, 26AS, ITR-V, intimation or Form 16.
- Type your PAN and date of birth. Capitals or not, both are tried.
- It opens. See the password, and save an unlocked copy.
