The browser enforces this: the site’s security policy only lets the page talk to the code libraries’ servers and an anonymous usage counter (tool name, file type, size range). A request carrying your file to anywhere else would be blocked before it left.
Check it yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab, and run the tool. Or turn off Wi-Fi once the tool has loaded; it keeps working.
How it works
The password of an e-Aadhaar or masked Aadhaar PDF is the first four letters of your name in capitals, then your year of birth. Type them here and it opens.
UIDAI locks every e-Aadhaar it sends, from the website, DigiLocker or the mAadhaar app, with the same rule: the first four letters of your name as printed in English on the Aadhaar, in capital letters, followed by your four-digit year of birth. Suresh Kumar born in 1989 opens his with SURE1989. The edge cases trip people up. Spaces are skipped and the count carries on into the next word, so SAI KUMAR is SAIK1990. A dot counts as a character, so P. KUMAR is P.KU1990. A name shorter than four letters is used whole, so RIA born in 1990 is RIA1990. Only the year of birth is used, never the full date. Drop your Aadhaar PDF, type your name as it appears on the card and your birth year, and each version is tried for you. When it opens you can save a copy without a password, or hide the first eight digits with Mask ID numbers before you share it. The file and your details stay on your device.
How to use it
- Drop your e-Aadhaar PDF. The one downloaded from UIDAI, DigiLocker or mAadhaar.
- Type your name and birth year. Your name as printed on the Aadhaar.
- It opens. The password is shown, and you can save an unlocked copy.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the e-Aadhaar password format?
- First four letters of your name in capital letters, then your year of birth: SURE1989 for Suresh, born 1989.
- My name has a space or an initial. What do I type?
- Type it exactly as printed. Spaces are skipped (SAI KUMAR → SAIK) and dots count as characters (P. KUMAR → P.KU). Both are tried for you.
- My name has only three letters.
- The whole name is used with the year, so RIA born in 1990 is RIA1990.
- Is the masked Aadhaar password the same?
- Yes. The masked Aadhaar is the same download with the first eight digits hidden, and it uses the same password.
- Will removing the password break the digital signature?
- The saved copy no longer carries UIDAI's signature check. Keep the original if a portal needs to verify the signature, and share the unlocked copy where a readable file is all that's needed.
- Are my PDF and details uploaded?
- No. The PDF is opened and every password is tried in your browser, on your device. Your name, date of birth and PAN are never sent anywhere or saved.
